As a Consultant Gynaecologist, practicing in Harley St, I follow all the technical advances in the speciality. Hologic is a company which revolutionised the cervical smear, and developed the modern thin prep technology that is known as the MyoSure Procedure: A great addition to Gynaecology.
Hologic then developed NovaSure, a second generation endometrial ablation treatment for heavy periods. Again this radically changed our practice, and in 2021, hysterectomies are now a rarity. This is due both the Mirena coil, and also NovaSure. NovaSure is still a very effective treatment for heavy periods, and I continue to use this device.
More recently, Hologic established the MyoSure, which has helped transform how we treat and investigate abnormal vaginal bleeding, polyps and fibroids. I carry out Myosure procedures in the operating theatre, under general anaesthetic.
The MyoSure device comes into its own in the management and treatment of post menopausal bleeding, because it allows the surgeon to directly view and biopsy tissues in the uterus. For polyps it allows for the complete removal of the polyp and stalk.
But its with submucous fibroids, that Myosure has provided, a safe and effective treatment for women who suffer heavy bleeding as a result of a vascular submucous fibroid.
I have treated over 300 women with this technology over the last 7 years, and I remain very impressed with the results, so do the patients. These women experience very little pain or bleeding. I also believe that for women who would like to have children in the future, the MyoSure procedure, may be a treatment option to consider.
